Instructors
Summer Camp Lead Instructor
Do you enjoy working with children? Do you have a flair for writing? Would you like to develop the next generation of wordsmiths? Lekha Writing Center is looking for instructors to teach our popular writing camps during the summer in and around the Bay Area. Summer is the best time to try out a new career. Many of our teachers stay on to teach during the school year.
We are currently looking for instructors to teach in Fremont, Millbrae, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Tracy.
Lead Writing Instructor will
- Teach two camps each week – creative writing camps before lunch and academic writing after lunch.
- Teach for a total of six hours each day- three hours before lunch and three hours after.
- Provide feedback and create portfolios.
- Supervise campers during lunch and breaks.
- Be responsible for set up and take down wherever required.
- Teach using the curriculum provided, while adding their own flair to the program.
The ideal instructor
- Has at least a bachelor’s degree
- Is an excellent writer
- Has an interest in seeing children excel as writers and storytellers.
- Enjoys having a good time with children.
- Is willing to commit to teaching for a minimum of four weeks.
- Has their own form of transportation.
We prefer our instructors to be
- Published writers
- Have some experience teaching children
- Willing to travel to more than one location.
Interviews will be held in April.
Salary: $23.00 - $26.00 perhour

Note:
During the school year, Lekha conducts classes throughout the Bay Area in after-school enrichment centers, schools, and community centers. We also conduct virtual web-based classes. You may be considered for a year-long teaching position if you enjoy the summer with Lekha Ink.
Intern With Lekha Ink
Do you enjoy working with children? Do you have a flair for writing? Would you like to inspire younger children to write as well as you? Lekha Writing Center is looking for interns in our popular writing camps during the summer in and around the Bay Area. This year we are looking for interns in the Fremont, Pleasanton, San Ramon, San Carlos, Millbrae, and Tracy areas.
The Ideal Intern
The ideal intern is a college student majoring in Humanities or in the creative arts. They must be good writers and storytellers and should enjoy spending time with children. Interns may either aid the lead instructor at a campsite or teach a small class on their own.
The Intern Will
- help assist the lead instructor as required to guide students in the Lekha Way, using Lekha curriculum provided.
- Intern will encourage every child to write a piece which will be included in Adventures of Imagination anthologies and /or Young Wordsmiths magazine.
- The Lekha Intern is responsible for the students' safety during class time, break time, and lunch time.
- · If necessary, the intern may need to stay onsite for purposes of extended care. Additional compensation will be provided for extended care.
Salary: $17:00 - 19:00 per hour

Volunteer With Lekha Ink
Do you enjoy working with children? Do you have a flair for writing or art? Would you like to inspire younger children to write as well as you? Come, volunteer with Lekha Writing Center in the Fremont, Pleasanton, San Ramon, San Carlos, Millbrae, or Tracy.
The Ideal Volunteer
The ideal volunteer is a rising high school junior or senior student planning with an interest in Humanities or the creative arts. They must be good writers and storytellers and should enjoy spending time with children. Volunteers will aid the lead instructor at a campsite.
Compensation: Gift card of $200/ full-day week
